Peformed at Hedonism, a “Sex and Subculture” party. It was at the height of the Pauline Hanson and one nation drama and all the performers this night were asked to respond to Pauline and her merry Nazis. Somehow the party name and theme ended up being Hedonism. Bit of a clash I thought. I wanted to explore in this show the notion that in even the most politically correct of us there is still residual hatred and xenophobia passed on from our social conditioning. Damage and hindrance to our growth which are the bruises on white skin of being raised in a hateful culture. Incomparable to the bruises bashed into non white skin but essential to purge if we are to be honest with ourselves. By removing the swastika in my skin and the stitches holding my mouth shut I invited the audience to share in squeezing the hate out like the rancid boil it is.
